About Rabbi Goodman
He weaves the story of Abraham with a smile that just won’t quit, the travails of Solomon with a love that bursts directly from his soul to your heart: this is not your father’s rabbi, this is the voice of the future of American Judaism. Rabbi Goodman’s credentials are as impressive as his youthful spirit and commitment.
Born in Mexico City, he was voted President of the Latin American Union of Jewish Students when he was only 19-years-old. Singled out by international leaders for both his ideas and hard work, young Felipe became vice president of the World Union of Jewish Students. In 1990, having earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from Mexico City’s University of The New World, the young man began his rabbinical studies at The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He received a Masters Degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1993 and was ordained as a Rabbi in 1996.
Today, Rabbi Felipe Goodman is The Rabbi of one of the most vibrant and fastest growing Conservative Congregations in The West Coast of The United States; Temple Beth Sholom in Las Vegas Nevada. He is one of 12 members of The Rabbinic Cabinet of The Chancellor of The Jewish Theological Seminary and serves as a member of The Joint Placement Commission of The Rabbinical Assembly, The United Synagogue and JTS. He was also recently appointed by The Jewish Theological Seminary to a position in The Joint Retirement Board of The Conservative Movement. In the past, he has been a member of The Executive Council of The Rabbinical Assembly and also a member of its Nominating Committee. In June 2008, Rabbi Goodman received certification from The Joint Beth Din of The Conservative Movement as a Mesader Gittin becoming one of the few Rabbis in The Conservative Movement to be an expert in the area of Jewish Law that deals with the writing, delivery and proper order of a Jewish Bill of Divorce. He is also co-author of “Hagadah de Pesaj,” which is the most widely used edition of The Pesach Haggadah used in Latin America.
